Fried Food!

Ok, so I only let Taylor eat fried food 2x a week. 3x max if it's one of those weeks. And when the ketchup gets low in 1 week, I know I am not following my rules.

We've been in the car a lot lately. Mainly because we are looking for a house while we build our other house. We are currently living with my in-laws, who were so gracious to take us in when we had nowhere to go and our other house sold! So I do drive-bys to rule out areas I do or don't want to live in.

And we all know when kids get hungry, well you better feed 'em or be ready for a meltdown. And what's easiest while you are in the car? Chicken strips! I do my best not to eat too much Fast Food either, and when I do go through a drive-thru I try to go somewhere with paninis or salads. But I have had my share of Kids Meals in this last week!

My while point is if I watch what my kids eat I can also monitor how well I am eating. And if we are running low on ketchup again next week - I have a problem!

On that note, remember frozen chicken strips were fried before they were frozen unless they say grilled! My husband tries to pull the 'ol "I baked the frozen chicken strips!"

  1. I have a question about the weight loss caloric calculator. Should I eat the recommended calories every day or just the days that I exercise and stick to my BMI amount on the days I don't? I'm just curious how it evens out to weight loss if I'm not expending that much every day.

  2. I'm not Lindsay, but thought I'd answer you and she can correct me if I'm wrong.

You should deduct 250-500 cals (so you can either eat less, workout more or a combo of both to create the deficit) from that total each day for .5 - 1lb weight loss per week.

    I hope that helps?

  3. Vanessa - I appreciate your response; I was wondering if I'm supposed to eat 1400 calories for weight loss according to the calculator which takes into account exercise, should I eat that every day or go even lower (but not below 1200) on the days I don't.

I'm a bit sleep deprived, so I hope my wording makes sense!

  4. It's a tricky question...and a good one! My best advice is to monitor your weight loss by measuring every Monday. You shoudl be ok doing the 1400-1500 calon days you do not exercise. It all evens out. Your body doesn't live on a 24 hour diet, it lives on vitamins and nutrients received over the course of 3-4 days. Does that make sense? So it should even out. But if you notice you are not losing, or not losing as fast as you'd like, cut your non-exercise days to 1200 and not below!

And Vanessa has the right answer! Over 1 week you should deduct 3500 calories. 3500 calories = 1 pound. So if you do 30 minutes of exercise and eat 200 calories less each day, the calculation has you losing 1 pound a week! But this equation doesn't take your height and weight into effect, while our BMR calculator does.

Hope that helps! Just track your progress and find how yoru body works.

  5. It seems like I am always needing food that is ready fast and is super easy! Here is a quick and healthy recipe I just tried out with my husband and 2 year old that I thought you might like:

    Sweet Potato Burritos

-1 large sweet potatoe grated or in small cubes (I grated mine)
    -1 onion
    -2 cloves minced garlic
    -1TBSP olive oil
    -1 tsp cumin
    -2 tsp chili powder
    salt and pepper
    -2 cups black beans
-grated cheese, salsa and sliced avocado
    -tortilla shells

Add olive oil to skillet and saute onions until soft. Add garlic, cumin and chili powder, saute until fragrant. Add sweet potatoes and saute 2 minutes. Add 1-2 TBSP water, cover and cook sweet potatoes until tender about 7 minutes. Add beans and mix. Warm tortillas and add mixture with cheese, salsa and avocado.

    hope you like it!

  6. Good one, Ysanne. I will have to put it in my recipe box!
